When there is good muscle balance, the pelvis is maintained in proper alignment. With imbalance, there is undue compression and tension in the lumbar area. With massage therapy, alignment can be restored with releasing muscle tension, allowing for proper pelvic position and posture.

Slow, deep gliding pressure along the length of the muscle fibers, compression, and transverse friction across the muscle tissue among other techniques are used to treat low back and hip dysfunction.
